Euphius McDowell Halsey 1784-1870

She was up for sale today at a starting bid of $2,500, as the painting was attributed to Shelton Peck. I did not buy her but wanted to put her on the blog so her face would be on google images.  Born 26 May 1784 in Luzerne PA died 7 July 1870 in Trumansburg, NY.  Married 10 August 1806 in Ovid, NY to  Nicoll Halsey. He was born 8 March 1782 Suffolk NY died 3 March 1865 Calhoun, Michigan.  That is all I know. I didn't watch to see if she sold or for how much.  I pulled her info from Ancestry.  She has a lot of people on Ancestry claiming her as an ancestor.  Now they can know what she looked like.  Back of painting. Said to be found wrapped in burlap in a barn in New York in the 1960's with her name and the artist's name attached.  One descendant calls her Euphemia Euphius McDowell Halsey. Description:  Oil on single pine panel. Female portrait with lace collar, book in her right hand against a red fringed drape, unsigned, some paint loss, 28.5"h x 23.5"

Old Paris Vases have arrived from auction

My Old Paris vases have arrived from auction.   They are 19 inches tall and weigh 25 pounds, so I was anxious to say the least to have them arrive safely.  I can't give enough praise to the auction company and to Niketa at the UPS store in Austin for making sure they got to me in perfect condition! Here is the description from the catalog at Austin Auction Gallery in Texas:   "(pair) Old Paris porcelain parcel gilt hand-painted vases, having rams head handles and floral swags framing figural compositions of Rococo courtship, pale blue side verso, overall wear to gilt, repair at one base, 19"h, 10.5"w, 25lbs " The rams' heads have lost some of their gold from years of being dusted.  Exactly as they should be.  Happy young lovers... ...sitting under trees in a garden.

My booths at the mall, for anyone interested in what they look like down here in the South

Dark Lady with a large red bow

This lady with the red bow slipped through an auction.  Either she is wearing some type of cap or someone didn't do a very good job repainting her hair.  The frame is new and cheap but at least it complements the portrait.  I think she is continental, maybe French or German. There is a tear in the canvas above the right hand. It won't be a bad fix.
