Bama Planter

This little boy just arrived.  No frame.  Standard size.  Probably 1850's.  Starched detachable white collar. This one shows the color the best.  He is not faded.  You can see he had a frame with an oval center at one time. 

I bought a milk glass repro butter dish which reminded me of two I already had. I found them, washed them, and made a line up.  Flash back to 1980's collecting.  Old Paris, Lusters, R.S. Prussia, Mary Gregory:  Can't seem to get it to the shop.   Two new Old Paris pink arrivals. Keepers I guess.  I thought a lot of interest would be shown in this dated 1796 print of Summer's pleasures.  Not so .  Got it "for cheap."  1796 doesn't impress many people anymore.   1890's English Staffordshire dogs.  The German porcelain compote was twice the size I thought it would be, at over 15 inches. The pink and white bird vases are French 1890's.   Just too frou-frou for words.   Google Frou Frou....she was a character in a 19th century opera La Belle Vivette.  You will find some other FrouFrou characters also. 

It's a sunny day in Alabama, so all the mustards and yellows are having a bright time of it showing up on the front porch.  I painted the wicker settee I bought from the estate of my college history professor Mr. Triplett. He would like that. I also painted the front door yellow. You can see the mustard table behind the shoe stand. The burlap pillows are from Pottery Barn and are a gift from my sister who lives in Fairhope. The swing is a very light yellow but appears whitish in the sun.  The door wreath is made from old matress springs. I wove the fall colors in between.  The Welcome sign is also yellow.  My grandmother's little WW2 table sits in the far corner of the porch. 

A good friend stopped me from making a big mistake and selling this marble top basin stand.  He recognized it as by Meeks.  It looks good surrounded by the rosewood chairs from the Marion sale last spring.  I also bought some lustres and Old Paris and other vases and had no where to put them so they are there for now. The carving on the inside of the upper leg is a Meeks characteristic.  Some of the Old South big name furniture makers include Meeks, Belter, Prudent Mallard of New Orleans,  and Mitchell and Rammelsberg of Cincinnati (they made the furniture in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House).  I also love all the parlor sets made by John Jelliff. I am looking for correct casters to elevate the table. The caster marks are under the feet. That seems like a small thing but will make a very big difference once they are restored.

I just purchased this from Selkirk of St. Louis, Mo.  Twentieth century. Figural and floral decorated.  h. 13.5"

American School (19th Century), oil on canvas, Portrait of Young Man Holding Book, 35" x 27" canvas, 43" x 35" overall.   He arrived two days ago. He will be for sale in my booth in Marion.  He is in a large and almost perfect wood/gesso frame.  $600.00
